World
Youth Day is a event organized by the
Catholic Church for the Youth from the whole world. Although it is a
great opportunity to celebrate the Catholic faith, the invitation to
attend extends to all youth, regardless of religious convictions.
World Youth Day (WYD) was
initiated by Pope John Paul II in 1986. It is celebrated every three
years at different locations. The international level events attract
hundreds of thousands of youth from almost every country on the planet.
The next World Youth Day will be celebrated in Madrid, Spain from 16-21
August 2011.
